Susan, You certainly name some good reasons why speakers get stressed.
Let me add, please.
1. If you don’t know your subject matter.
You don’t have to be the world authority, but you have to know enough that you can have
a “confidence in your competence.” That knowledge will reduce stress.
2. Know how to present.
Just as the recipe for a great cake has specific ingredients, in specific amounts, that
must be added at specific times in a specific manner – there is a recipe for a speech.
Know that recipe, and following it, will reduce stress.
